Who are the Toronto Accolades?

Founded in 1968, Toronto Accolades is an all-female a cappella choral group singing four-part harmony in the barbershop style. We are members of Harmony, Inc., an international organization promoting friendship and personal growth through music and music education. Our repertoire includes a variety of music, both old and new, fast and slow. We put on shows, compete at Harmony, Inc. annual contests, and perform within the community. Please browse through our website to find out more about us.

OLG CHARITABLE BINGO

Despite COVID-19, members of the Toronto Accolades continue to meet weekly for a ZOOM rehearsal.  Although we sing four part harmony a cappella when we perform, during our rehearsals we use a keyboard to help us out with some of the trickier parts of the songs we are working on.

Several months ago, our elderly keyboard gave up the ghost.  We are thrilled that, with the help of funds we received from Rama Gaming House--Toronto East, we have been able to purchase a new keyboard and stand.  And, anticipating a time in the not too distant future when we will once again be bringing our keyboard to rehearsals at the community centre, we also purchased a sturdy case to protect our new investment.

Many thanks to Rama Gaming House--Toronto East from the Toronto Accolades.

VISIT A REHEARSAL

We would normally meet every Thursday evening, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Earl Bales Community Centre, 4169 Bathurst St.  (Bathurst and Sheppard) for fun, friendship and song! We look forward to the time when visitors can come and experience the joy of a cappella singing with the Toronto Accolades once again.

In the meantime, we are connecting every Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. on ZOOM.  We welcome anyone to join us on ZOOM, connect with our members and see what our chorus is all about.

OUR NEW DIRECTOR!

The Toronto Accolades have a new director!  We are excited to welcome Alana Regular into our Accolades family, and can hardly wait to get back to live rehearsals for a fresh new start, working together with her.  In the meantime, she has enthusiastically taken on the challenge of guiding us through our weekly ZOOM rehearsals.  You can find out more about Alana on our "Musical Director" page.

COVID AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS

The Toronto Accolades probably remember well our 2020 AGM, held just the evening before Canada went into "lockdown" on March 13, and a State of Emergency was declared in the United States and many other countries around the world. We carried on with our meeting then, seated 6 feet apart, and even sang a couple of songs afterwards, with risers and ourselves spaced widely apart from each other.  But we cut the evening short, knowing that we would not be getting together for a rehearsal the following week or for a number of weeks to come.

Now, a whole year later, our March Annual General Meeting was conducted via ZOOM. But spring and summer are on their way. And a few of our members have already received their first dose of vaccine, with the rest of us looking forward to it over the next several months. We have had great participation in our weekly ZOOM meetings throughout the year, which has kept us connected -- and almost every member turned out for our ZOOM AGM. This AGM signifies the start of a brand new year, with a new director, and a renewed sense of optimism for what lies ahead!
