Who are the toronto accolades?

Founded in 1968, Toronto Accolades is an all-female a cappella choral group singing four-part harmony in the barbershop style. We are members of Harmony, Inc., an international organization promoting friendship and personal growth through music and music education. Our repertoire includes a variety of music, both old and new, fast and slow. We put on shows, compete at Harmony, Inc. annual contests, and perform within the community. Please browse through our website to find out more about us.

OLG CHARITABLE BINGO

The Toronto Accolades love to perform around town, especially for seniors. The funds that we have received from volunteering at Rama Toronto East Bingo and Gaming Centre have allowed us to purchase music and learning tracks to add new songs to our repertoire. We’ve also been able to buy new costumes and hire coaches to help us enhance our performances.

Since March, the Toronto Accolades have been unable to perform for the public. But that doesn’t mean we are not thinking of the members of our community. With the funds we have received from Rama Toronto East during the time of Covid-19, the Toronto Accolades have donated a very generous amount to three charities working hard to support Torontonians struggling with food and housing insecurity: The North York Harvest Food Bank, the Salvation Army and Street Haven.

Thank you Rama for helping us to help others!

OUR DIRECTOR

The Toronto Accolades wish to thank Wendy Shibata for her many years of dedication to our chorus. Wendy became our director 20 years ago, after being a member of the chorus for an additional 10 years before that..  Through her years as director, she worked hard and took every educational opportunity to add to her directing skills.  She passed her knowledge on to the chorus, and brought us to a level at which we have been consistently qualifying for Internationals for many years.

Unfortunately, Wendy's life has taken many turns, and she is no longer able to serve as our director.  We will miss her enormously in that capacity; however, we are happy that she is continuing her close ties to the chorus by remaining a member.  Meanwhile, we are open to any interested applicants who might consider taking on the position of director with the Toronto Accolades.

The chorus is continuing to meet each week on ZOOM to receive coaching from some of barbershop's top talent, rehearse repertoire, discuss singing techniques, and just connect with each other and socialize.  We are a friendly, welcoming group, and encourage anyone who is interested to check us out by joining one of our Thursday evening ZOOM meetings.
