About Us

Rehearsing the railroad themeThe Toronto Accolades is a women’s vocal group, singing four-part a cappella  harmony, primarily in the barbershop style.  The chorus is composed of about 35 members of all ages and backgrounds, who meet every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Earl Bales Community Centre for an evening of singing and fun.  We also enjoy performing in the community, putting on shows and competing annually at contest.

Smaller ensembles are often formed within the chorus to perform at chorus shows and community events. The chorus also has an associated quartet which not only puts on performances but also competes at contest each year.

The Toronto Accolades is a member of Harmony, Inc., which consists of 65 choruses in Canada and the United States.  Harmony, Inc. holds area contests in the spring and an International Contest in November for those choruses and quartets that qualified in their area contests.  Classes and workshops are put on at these events, as well as at other times of the year, for those who would like to learn more about music and improve their singing.

Wendy Arnold has been our director since the year 2000, and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job.  Coaches are also brought in from time to time to help us improve our singing skills.

We have an extensive repertoire of songs, both old and new, fast and slow, and we are always learning new ones.  Members are given both sheet music and audio learning tracks of each song, so they do not have to know how to read music to belong to the chorus.
